Recipe: Plant Based GF Crepes

When we traveled to Paris last year, there was nothing more delightful and delicious than sharing a crepe while walking through the finest gardens or the bustling cobblestone streets of the city. When in Paris, you might as well toss your health ideals to the wayside every now and then and just enjoy all the culinary majesty it has to offer.

Yet, when we returned home I had this burning desire to replicate our beloved crepes and not only make them a dessert, but to turn them into something as nutritious as, let’s say, oatmeal. So I went online and looked up vegan crepe recipes and stumbled upon Earth of Maria, which is where the bottom crepe recipe is derived from and they are delicious. But you still need to have more than just a crepe, you also need a sauce and filling, and I wanted to create a complete and nutritious meal.

So I decided to use the new Catie’s Organics Maca Dutch Chocolate Protein Powder in a vegan, coconut cashew creme. The result was two decadent chocolate and vanilla sauces that are filled with plant protein, healthy fats and absolutely zero refined sugar, and you and your family can eat it for breakfast any darn day of the week.

So, let’s get to it!

Crepe Ingredients:

  • 1 3/5 cups buckwheat flour
  • 3 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 tsp coconut sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups almond milk

Vanilla Creme:

  • 1 cup raw cashews
  • 2 scoops Simply Young Creamy Coconut Powder
  • 1 cup water or coconut water
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • few drops of stevia to taste

Chocolate Creme:

Instructions

Crepes

  • Add the buckwheat flour, ground flaxseed, coconut sugar, salt and almond milk to a large mixing bowl. Whisk the ingredients together really well.
  • Heat a large frying pan over a medium-low heat. Add 1 tsp coconut oil and add enough batter to the frying pan to cover the entire surface (around 1/4 cup per crepe). Cook for around 2 minutes, until it is easy to lift up the crepe. Flip, then cook for a further thirty seconds on the other side.

Creme

  •  Blend all ingredients in vanilla creme together till smooth, add more coconut sugar or stevia to taste if needed. Take half of the mixture and place it in a bowl on the side. Add the protein and cacao powder to the rest of the mixture and blend till fully incorporated.

Crepe Assembly

  • Have a large bowl of seasonal fruit and berries prepared. Add 2 tablespoons of each   sauce to the crepe starting from the center. Add a line of fruit down the middle (amount of fruit will depend on how large you want the crepes to be) then roll them up. Once all crepes are assembled, line them up on a dish and drizzle the rest of the sauces on top and add fresh fruit. This makes a beautiful and easy presentation for any brunch or party.;

We hope you love them! Enjoy!

R&R: A Prescription for Your Health

The ego loves to bypass the body’s need for sleep and rest. It thrives on the conditioning of society that places value on getting ahead and tireless effort, saying that a real successful person NEVER quits. We grow up thinking that our futures will be filled with disdain towards our bosses, as we sacrifice most hours of the day working towards other people’s goals and catching up on laundry during our weekend free time. We were never told that our quality of output is actually based on how well we love and treat ourselves, not how well we can sacrifice our human needs. And yes, it is true, that a real successful person never quits on their goals, but what you may not know is that they are savants at self care and they certainly know when to take a break.

Cutting on sleep to get ahead can be a pretty detrimental thing, however, if you are naturally one of those enigmas who only gets four hours of sleep at night and feels great, then more power to you. I’m assuming you take naps? Regardless, what this is about is listening to your body and understanding the repercussions if you do not.

Here is a list of some very common side effects associated with sleep deprivation:

  • Impaired Memory
  • Poor Concentration
  • Impaired Judgement
  • Lowered Stress Threshold
  • Reduced Sociability
  • Lowered Optimism
  • Shifts in Vital Signs
  • Poor Tissue Repair
  • Weight Gain
  • Increased risk for High Blood Pressure
  • Increased risk for Heart Disease

A great way to catch up on sleep is to treat yourself to a little shut eye for thirty minutes to an hour each day as often as you can or need. If you feel you need it, instead of telling yourself that you have too much to do and you don’t have time, instead tell yourself how much more productive you’ll be since you are giving your body and mind this time to heal. Also keep in mind that the is not a reflection on your willpower as a person, this is you realizing that you have a brain and a body that has needs just like the car you drive and they need to be maintained. You don’t really have a choice in the matter.

Relaxation is different from rest but it is also just a important. Relaxation can be thought of as the passive activities that you enjoy. Such as reading a book, watching your favorite movie with your partner or kids, knitting, journaling, taking a bath, drawing, cooking, etc. These things have a very positive influence on your mind as they allow you to let go. Commonly, our brain is trying to compartmentalize, plan and control our daily circumstances and the only way to have balance is by allowing your brain to relax and sink into your positive, restful space.

This can in turn be beneficial in:

  • Your Body
  • Your Productivity
  • Your ability to Problem Solve
  • Your state of Happiness
  • Your Creativity
  • Reducing your Stress Levels

More and more, people are waking up and realizing that our bodies have needs and that this ideal of a Super Human might not be realistic and that it is definitely not sustainable. Individually, we are intuitively learning how to better take care of ourselves and it is through sharing that we may be able to help others gain the licensing to take better care of themselves too! I hope you feel inspired to make self care a priority for yourself and see how you will be able to support others around you so much more because of it. Lots of love, and if you’d like, please share your favorite way to self care in the comments below!

Are Your Probiotics Weak?

– Colorectal Cancer

– Inflammatory Bowel Disease

A powerful probiotic supplement can be crucial for bringing balance & diversity back into the microbiome.

What MUST be present in an effective probiotic, and what is NOT found in most probiotic products is something called, “survivability”.

A probiotic’s strength to survive the atmosphere of the stomach acid is the true test of whether or not a probiotic actually works, and MOST probiotics on the market DO NOT survive the digestive process. Yielding them completely powerless.

IMG_6157

Simply Young offers an advanced probiotic blend called, “Pure Body Digestive Flora” that has an excellent survivability rate, provides more than 5 billion living microorganisms per capsule at the time of manufacturing and is a vegetariannon-gmo product!

“Pure Body Digestive Flora” offers the effective blend of the following key probiotics:

  •         Lactobacillus acidophilus: L. acidophilus is a rod shaped motile bacteria that grows in or without the presence of oxygen. L. acidophilus is also characterized as a homofermentative that only produces lactic acid as its sole product. L. acidophilus is naturally found in the human and animal GI tract, mouth and vagina.
  •         Lactobacillus rhamnosus: L. rhamnosus is gaining recognition for its systemic immune-enhancing ability and is known to produce the biologically desirable L(+) lactic acid
  •         Lactobacillus plantarum: The ability of L. plantarum to create antimicrobial substances allows them to live in the gastro-intestinal tract. The antimicrobial substances produced have a strong effect on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
  •         Bifidobacterium longum: Bifidobacterium longum is one of most important inhabitants in the human body. This bacterium is very helpful because it maintains a normal digestive tract, inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria, and also boosts the immune system.
  •         Bifidobacterium breve: B breve, this bacteria is anaerobic and non-motile. Its branches are rod-shaped, looking almost like a cactus in the microscopic view.
  •         Bacillus subtilus: A member of the genus Bacillus, B. subtilis is rod-shaped, and has the ability to form a tough, protective endospore, allowing the organism to tolerate extreme environmental conditions. B. subtilis has a long history of use in treating gastrointestinal disorders such as dysentery. It is known to stimulate the immune system and produce antibiotic compounds that inhibit the growth of some pathogenic microorganisms.

In moderation, coffee and caffeine can provide some proven health benefits. Such as their potential benefits against Alzheimers and dementia, the possibility of heightened memory and of course, coffee and tea’s high antioxidant value. Though there are touted health benefits, it is also very true that many of us are highly addicted to coffee and consuming much more than needed. This can be due to stress, fast paced schedules and diet culture. It’s time to come into balance and we may have the perfect replacement for you!

A lot of the romance we have with coffee, apart from a possible physical dependency, is the RITUAL.

Ritual is so important for us as humans as it’s something that aligns the soul with our daily tasks and connects us with the present moment and the events ahead. So it can be challenging for us, particularly during the start of our day, to give up a ritual such as making your morning coffee.

Now here’s where Brain Chai Latte comes in!

Simply Young’s Brain Chai Latte is a coffee and chai-spiced drink that can be prepared hot or cold and is completely caffeine free! It is loaded with superfoods and herbs that can easily be a replacement for one or ALL your daily cups of  coffee due to their awakening benefits. Listed below are some of the reasons why Brain Chai Latte is gonna be the right choice for you!

Number 1: The flavor of Brain Chai definitely has that yummy coffee taste due to the roasted dandelion. So it has all the flavor, without the caffeine.

Number 2: The herbs in the Brain Chai were particularly selected because they are vasodilators and they promote blood flow and circulation to the brain. This then offers you that feeling of being awake and present without all those caffeine jitters and shakes.

Number 3: Brain Chai is made in a base of raw powdered coconut milk 🥥 So it makes a super tasty and convenient latte-like drink. Yum!

Number 4: It can be consumed hot or cold.

Number 5: It is completely sugar free and sweetened with organic raw Stevia leaf which is non toxic, unlike the white processed, toxic stevia.

Greens 101

Find Out Which GREENS Are Best For You!

As a company who is a proprietor of many different Green formulas, we want to help set the record straight and help you understand what might be best for YOU!

(*Just a side note, for those of you who may not know our history, our beautiful little company, Simply Young, was born from her mother company, Catie’s Organics, who was born from Energy Essentials. All companies still exist in the world today and they have all taken on their owned destined identities.)

– Just Greens:  We created “Just Greens” as a way to counteract the large amount of radiation that could be present in your environment. After the Chernoble explosion, scientists did a study on a group of the victims using different green grasses to chelate the radiation from their bodies. The results were staggering, reducing their measurable radiation over fifty percent. These greens grasses, including barley grass, wheat grass, oat grass and alfalfa were all used during this study and we have included them all, plus much more, within our “Just Greens” formula. It is the perfect addition to your “Catie’s Organic Greens” if you are already taking those and you wish you double your benefit! You can find “Just Greens” here.

Catie’s Organic Greens: Is a perfect formula for daily use. It is filled with blue-green algaes such as spirulina and chlorella and is also loaded with the very healthy, barley grass powder and fermented barley grass. Amongst this, it has many medicinal mushrooms such as maitaki, shitaki, and cordyceps, and is also filled with probiotics and enzymes for optimal digestion. You can find “Catie’s Organic Greens” here.

Catie’s Gluten Free Greens: This product is wonderful for the more sensitive individuals, and obviously if you are gluten free it is ideal! It has all of the benefits of “Catie’s Organic Greens”, except in place of the barley grass and oat grass we simply up-ed the spirulina and chlorella and also added asparagus! You can find “Catie’s Gluten Free Greens” here.

Vital Flow Essentials:A particular benefit that comes with “Vital Flow Essentials” is that it contains citrilus lanatus and nitric oxidewhich are vaso dialators, a fancy word for allowing the veins to open more and letting in more blood flow. This means more blood and oxygen pumping through the body and therefore it makes VFE an excellent pre-workout drink! VFE is also very high in iron due to the beet and nettle content and so it can be very helpful in building the blood! You can find “Vital Flow Essentials” here.

What Do You Know About Charcoal?

Health fad? Or actually really good for you?

Activated charcoal is a fine black powder that comes from wood and coconut husk and it has the ability to bind to everything it comes in contact with within your system (*Please note that this is NOT the same charcoal that you use at your weekend barbecues!) It is actually a medicinal substance that undergoes a processing that strips the charcoal of its toxins and allows it to absorb and remove toxins within the body when consumed. It has actually even been used in hospitals to treat patients admitted due to overdoses as it helps to remove the toxins from their bodies.

It has many potential benefits which range from internal to cosmetic and we are gonna list some of those benefits below…

  1. Intestinal gas: Though the reasons for this are still unknown, activated charcoal has been linked to reducing intestinal gas within those plagued with the discomfort.
  2. Diarrhea: researches have determined that activated charcoal could help with diarrhea due to the porous surface of charcoal being able to absorb the bacteria that causes diarrhea.
  3. Teeth whitening: Activated charcoal has been known to whiten teeth and can be found in many different teeth whitening products. It can also be helpful in overall oral health, as it may be; antibacterial, antiviral, anti fungal and overall detoxifying!
  4. Body odor: Activated charcoal can be found in many deodorants as it has been touted to have the ability to absorb excess moisture and control humidity levels at a microscopic level.
  5. Skin: This substance can be beneficial for overall skin health or in helping in healing minor wounds due to its antibacterial effect in absorbing harmful bacterium. On a more day to day level, activated charcoal may be able to remove dirt and toxins from the skin allowing for a deep detoxification.

You don’t need much activated charcoal to gain all of these amazing potential benefits. Even just half a teaspoon will get you far! There are many ways to consume, including lemon water and smoothies. Check out our awesome “SY Everything Smoothie” below!

-Coconut Vegan Whipped Cream-

Nothing says ‘holidays’ more than whipped cream accompanying a delicious and fragrantly spicy, baked dessert. But who wants to sacrifice the healthy eating trend they’ve had going on since summer? With some of us taking on our New Years resolutions early, it is nice to know that we have fun, healthy (and vegan 😉  options for our holiday feastings.

With just a few tricks, it is delightfully simple to make homemade Coconut Vegan Whipped Cream.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can full-fat coconut milk, chilled for 24 hours*
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons organic maple syrup to taste
  • 1 vanilla bean, scraped or 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Chill the can of coconut milk in the fridge for at least 24 hours. Some cans can be “duds”, so it is always nice to keep an extra can in the fridge just in case.
  2. Chill your mixing bowl in the freezer for at least an hour before mixing
  3. After chilling the can, turn it upside down and open from the bottom. The water and cream will separate and you can pour the water into a container to save for later. *Vegan smoothies or coconut ice cubes are a good use for the extra water!
  4. Scoop the solid white vegan coconut cream into the bowl.
  5. Using an electric hand mixer, beat the cream until fluffy and smooth. Add in maple syrup to taste and vanilla.
  6. Place vegan coconut whipped cream in fridge until ready to use. It will firm when chilled and soften at room temperature. This will keep in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 1 week or you can freeze for up to 1 month. After chilling in the fridge, allow it to sit at room temperature until it softens slightly and then you can re-whip it as needed. Enjoy!

Enzymes + Herbs + Probiotics

Having good digestion and a healthy microbiome is paramount to vibrant health. Learn how the ingredients in SY’s Tropical Digest can help improve
the balance of YOUR gut and empower your Digestion!

Turmeric: Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and has been known to fight certain cancers. It has traditionally been used to alleviate indigestion by stimulating the production of bile from the gallbladder.

Lemon: Acts as a blood purifier and a cleansing agent. It aids in digestion and it has been said that drinking luke warm water and lemon can assist in weight loss.

Ginger: Is known for stimulating good digestion, the basis of health! It also ignites the digestive “fire” by helping the body to release the proper enzymes to break down food so nutrients can be easily absorbed.

Glucomannan: Glucomannan is high in fiber, essential for cleaning the digestive system. Glucomannan is taken from the Konnyaku root and is from the same family as the yam, which is 100 percent natural dietary fiber without calories.

Fennel: Is highly beneficial in relieving digestive problems such as indigestion, bloating, flatulence, constipation, colic, intestinal gas, heartburn, and even irritable bowel. This herb stimulates digestion and has carminative effects that soothe the digestive tract and prevent the formation of gas.

HOW Do YOU Get Hydrogen Water?!

Over time, the best and most affordable and eco-sustainable way to obtain the benefits of hydrogen and hydrogen rich water, is to have a water purification and infusion system installed into your home. You can buy canisters of hydrogen infused water or get magnesium tablet which produce hydrogen water, but over time those can become costly and are still contributing to the unfortunate plastic waste epidemic of the planet.

Simply Young’s HydraH2 Water System is a state of the art system that not ONLY infuses with Hydrogen, but also Purifies, Remineralizes, Alkalinizes and Ionizes your water, right in the comfort of your own home. It removes any toxins from your tap, such as fluoride, chlorine, led etc. It then REPLACES the vital minerals needed to sustain life in the proper amounts that would be found in a natural, free flowing spring. The system then Alkalinizes and Ionizes, turning the molecular structure of the water into smaller clusters, so that hydration can more efficiently reach your cells. Last but not least, the final stage is the infusion of EXTRA free Hydrogen molecules, that selectively enter the deepest part of your cells to induce toxin elimination.

For more details on Simply Young’s HydraH2 Water System, you can visit us at our website Here.
